Pool Reef

2019-12-16T06:44:42-05:00

If you have a small pool but want a unique look how do you get that.  It’s a simple answer for this homeowner “Buy a reef in my pool”.  This couple loved to dive on the reefs of Florida so they wanted to bring the reef home with them with a simple glass tile and a refinish.

I must add that I suggested a darker pool finish to give a deep water effect, but due to direct sunlight most of the day the pool would have been to hot to use in the summer.

Materials Used:

  • Custom Mosaics:
  • Brown sea turtle w/shadow
  • Clown Fish
  • Wrase set
  • Spotted Eagle ray w/shadow
  • Coral Reef C
  • Coral Reef E
  • Coral Reef D
  • Emperor Angelfish
  • Blue Glass tile
  • Diamond Bright Aqua Blue finish

Just a Shelf

2019-12-16T06:41:56-05:00

Is your going to install a new portable spa on ground that gets standing water the simple solution is raise up the spa. That way this large purchase will not be damaged by a pre-known water issue and there does not need to be a complete deck redesign.

Spa to Fountain

2019-12-18T11:45:02-05:00

This job came about my chance, Because we were onsite for another reason and noticed a great view damaged by an empty unused spa (was not used due to multiple leaks they said).  While we were onsite we asked the home owner why you don’t make a show fountain that can be colored or adjusted by remote.

The spa floor was raised to a fountain level that small kids could also play in if it was wanted. The old spa main drain pipe was used to power the floor jets and the lights were run to two junction boxes and a light controller to switch colors as wanted.

The full pool wat tile so we searched and found a matching color to do only the floor and top of the way (non-skid tiles) so it would look like an original design.

NOTE: by only replacing tiles areas that were required to be replaced the full effect was that this was an original feature since the old dated tile on the pool top and spa still match. When doing the non-skid top spillway, we remove many of the light tiles so the colors would slowly move to the newer lighter designed tiles in the fountain floor.

Materials Used:

  • Pentair Color floor jets (OLD style)
  • Glass Deep Blue selection tiles in smooth and skid-free styles
  • Pentair VS pump to control height as wanted

Second Floor Pool and Spa

2019-12-18T11:41:43-05:00

First off how many people have a pool above their game room in a single-family home.

The main reason for us to do this job was a waterfall to be built that can have plants planted behind them. However, after we got involved it was found that the plumbing and waterproofing in this second-floor pool had failed and needed to be rebuilt.

With the extra work needed to be completed the owners opted to redesign the coping with a contrasting material and refinish the full inside of the pool. In some of the during pictures you can see the red membrane that was placed around all the plumbing that went through the wall.  One of the requests was to make the spa bench smoother and more comfortable than the square flat step type bench. You can see in one of the pictures we rounded the front and back with small 3/4” glass tiles that the customer picked.

All of the materials for this project were chosen by the customer.

Spa Modernizing

2019-12-18T11:44:26-05:00

This customer just said it was time for a change and wanted the system to work properly finally.

The deck has gotten older and started to crack along with is being very slippery where the water was sitting in puddles, the lights stopped working and needed to have new conduit installed from the pool.

Most of our time was spent in this job at the complete rebuilding of the spa and bench due to cracks and bad piping along with the complete 14” rise of the spa and its benches. We added more jets from the original 3 that were first installed along with an air channel for complete message action.

The deck was reworked so there would be a nice rounding around the palms instead of square corners due to the pool having rounded corners as well.

The finish off the natural western creek look we added a creek rock bed spillway instead of a classic granite version.

Materials Used:

  • French Pattern GOLD Travertine
  • Black rockbed tile for spillway
  • Rust quartzite ledger stone for around spa
  • Ceramic Lake Blue tile in 1X1 and 3X3 sizes
  • LED white pool light
  • Blue QuartsScapes Filish.
  • There was also all new equipment added to make the system work properly.

2019-12-18T11:40:57-05:00

This is one of our complete back yard modernizing projects.

This customer wanted to install a large backyard kitchen beside the pool along with a fire pit area himself.  They also wanted to add a waterfall from the spa into the pool.

After inspecting the spa area, it was found that all the equipment that had been installed was either not working or located in an unrealistic location for our needs.

Materials Used:

  • French pattern Noche Travertine
  • White quartzite around the spa wall
  • Jewels glass tile in the pool
  • Tropical Blue QuartzScapes Finish

Coping Tile Complete

2019-12-16T06:36:28-05:00

Owner of home wanted to remove the old dated clay coping and get a modern looking spa makeover.

After removing all the tile, coping, and glass block from the pool and spa we had to cut the deck to create a space to install the coping wanted by the customer around the pool area. The tile was installed all the way to the pool floor to separate the spa from the pool and give a modern design effect.

Materials Used:

  • 6X12 Ivory travertine pavers for coping
  • 12X12 Ivory travertine class A for spa surround and coping
  • Granite Ivory color thin spillway material (For travertine type look)
  • Glass tile around pool and on steps
  • Basic Cool Blue Diamond Brite for finish.

Deck and Pool Modernize

2019-12-16T06:38:18-05:00

Can you make my spa easier to enter and make my pool better to entertain guests?

This job started out as a flat deck and pool combo where you could not easily heat the spa due to the level water height with the pool and it was hard to enter the spa. So, we modernized the deck area and resolved the customers issues with a few simple steps.

  • Raise spa walls and floor and install new super adjustable jets for true message effect.
  • Replace all spa piping due to multiple leaks and the upsizing needed for proper air and water to the jets installed.
  • Build a multi-tier and multi-use waterfall centered behind the house glass entry doors.
  • Waterfall will have Lions heads, Fiberoptic sheer, and Color Laminars all controlled by remote as wanted.
  • Skimmer was replaced due to it would be to low to properly function after the pool is raised for the new decking material.
  • The upper deck and all the steps were replaced with new deck material.
  • The size of the deck was increased to allow for more guests and easy movement around the property.
  • There was a duel flow spillway installed in the spa, so it would have a classic look to match the installed lions heads instead of a single style modern spillway.

Materials Used:

  • 6X12 Ivory travertine in a herringbone design
  • 4X8 Ivory travertine bullnose coping
  • Waterways Mega Jets in spa
  • Jandy Laminars
  • Fiber Falls 3 foot (currently discontinued pool tile)
  • Cool Blue Diamond Brite finish

Classic Pool Revival

2019-12-16T06:40:36-05:00

This is a project that is just as it looks like a rebuild after the property was left vacant. And since we had to redo the deck from scratch lets give it a modern flair at the same time.

As a rule in most cases we do not remove old deck areas due to something solid is always better that rock or sand bed. But, in this case the deck was so damaged from failed attempts to repair we just remove everything we could to start with a clean slate.

It was decided that instead of a constant large deck area around the house there was going to be separate areas divided my grass inserts or rocks to form separate stepping or use pads.

The rear steps and rear wall was demolished and rebuilt because of the red brick and sand technique used, so we just removed what was bad and rebuilt the wall to level and square.

Due to the finish sitting out of balance as long as it was we needed to strip the pool back to a solid finish to properly adhere the new finish.

Materials Used:

  • 8X12 Artistic Pavers TAN in rear
  • 12X12 Artistic Pavers TAN in front
  • 4X8 Artistic Pavers TAN bull nosed coping
  • Jewels Glass tile in pool and on steps
  • Basic IVORY QuartzScapes pool finish

Can you fix like everything?

2019-12-16T06:32:37-05:00

This is a job that began with a simple starting point of just repair my pool area, however it began to grow in size as many issues were revealed to us during inspection.

List of jobs involved:

  • Remove spa glass block on spa
  • Remove coping that is cracked and raise pool for new travertine coping material
  • Increase size of spillover to pool
  • Replace skimmer that was improperly installed
  • Remove coping overhang from around spa
  • Cover spa wall with customer supplied chip stone to pool floor
  • Properly level and cover large step entrance from master bedroom
  • Cover upper deck with travertine tiles and relevel steps from rear of house
  • Install same tile as pool on ALL facing edges of the steps to house

In this case we begin with a basic problem of the pool coping needed to be raised for a new deck material. In many pools this is done by just slopping some concrete (cold joint) or cutting off the current coping and covering it up and causing cracks within 3 years of job completion.

At Downtown Pools however we need to remove the coping on the pool and raise the pool beam with bonding rebar, so we can warranty the coping and tile bond for many more years. During the build it was also pointed out that the customer did not want to lay back on a coping in the spa so we custom designed a spa tile rap around with the coping sunk into the deck more for a smooth feel. The spa wall got covered with a cut stone from top to bottom to give the spa a modern design look.

Downtown Pools also installed the deck travertine on the pool deck and a matching deck marble on the raised area along with a complete re-leveling of the concrete steps around the deck area. We finished the whole project by moving the new tile onto the back of the BBQ unit and faced all the steps with the modern glass tile.

Materials Used:

  • Ivory French pattern travertine
  • Matching 6X6 paver coping
  • Upgraded glass tile
  • Mexican Fire-Stone chip travertine (No Longer available)
  • Touch of GLASS blue Diamond Brite finish.

Basic Pool and Deck

2019-12-16T06:27:37-05:00

This is our most popular remodel type with 4 basic features (Tile, Coping, Deck, Pool)

When we first go onsite in many instances there are issues found that were now known by the homeowner prior to our inspection.  In this case the coping beam was starting to separate from the pool and could cause a safety issue so as in so many of our jobs we had to remove all the coping and rebuild the beam properly for a full life. (This job was completed over 8 years ago and still looks like new)

Materials used:

  • Ivory French pattern travertine
  • Matching 4X8 bullnose coping
  • Basic “green dot priced” tile
  • BLUE quartzscapes finish

Can we add more?

2019-12-16T06:35:11-05:00

This is one of those projects that started as a simple refinish and ran amok into many large changes that I will try to explain here.

Original pool was tahoe blue diamond brite with a tropic lagoon look. The homeowners wanted to modernize there back yard with a unique design approach that a friend of there came up with and then the additional options started that are listed below.

  • Recolor coping to a red/orange stain to refresh the look.
  • Install a 4” gutter system to run into there already installed water control   system so the rain of the roof (did not want gutters) would not flood the house.
  • Install LED color Laminars one on each side of the pool meeting at the center with full filter and direct pump system to control height up to 15 feet into the air.
  • Install a Table and 4 stools in the middle of the shallow side of the pool.
  • Cover all the steps and swim outs with a customer supplied white ¾” glass tile.
  • Replace all lights in pool with new large scale LED color change systems.
  • Install multicolored deck stones in a checker pattern on all concrete surfaces.
  • Install PebbleScapes Mini-Pebble black onyx finish.
  • Replace 8 foot homemade waterfall with a sheer decent set into gazebo area.
  • Custom make key set mosaic and install the “keys of life” in the bottom center.
  • After a few months add full rock trickle wall and enclose gazebo.
  • Install full Jandy remote control system to set all colors and timers as wanted.
